One point of contact from the bid package through the final walk-through. Holds the submittal log, the release-to-fabrication dates, and the countertop template date, and raises an allowance overage while it is still a conversation rather than a change order.
About
One trade to manage instead of four
Casa Moderna builds kitchen, bath, closet, and living-space millwork across the DMV, for builders and developers and for the people having a house built. Five years in one trade, delivered as a single scope rather than four.

01
Five years in one trade
The company has spent five years on residential millwork and nothing else: cabinetry, built-ins, and the joinery that gets set after drywall and before the countertop template. That narrowness is the point. A trade that also frames, also tiles, and also hangs doors is a trade that schedules millwork around everything else it is doing.

Sharing a building with Landmark Surfaces
Our office shares a building with Landmark Surfaces, and both names appear on it. The two work in different trades: Landmark fabricates and installs stone, including countertops; Casa Moderna builds the cabinetry the stone sits on. If you have seen the two names together and wondered which one you were calling, that is the reason.

03
One contract instead of four
Kitchen, bathrooms, closets, mudroom, and laundry come as one scope of work with one drawing set and one finish schedule. The alternative is four subcontractors with four lead times and four different soft-close mechanisms in rooms that face each other.

04
Drawings written to be submitted
Shop drawings go out submittal-ready, with elevations, sections, and finish samples in the form the architect expects to review. RFIs are raised against as-built conditions rather than against the plan set, because the wall that got built is the one the cabinet has to fit.
-
05
Coordination around the template date
The countertop template cannot be booked until cabinets are set and levelled, and everything after it waits on that. We sequence the set against drywall and tile so the template date holds, which is usually what is actually being bought when millwork is bought on schedule.
The team
Who you deal with
-
Project manager
-
Design lead
Turns the architect's elevations into submittal-ready shop drawings and carries the RFIs and finish samples through approval. Field dimensions are reconciled against as-built conditions here, before anything is released to fabrication.
-
Shop lead
Runs the cut list and the finish schedule as one document, so what leaves the shop is what was approved. Sheet goods, edge treatment, and hardware are checked against the submittal rather than against the last job.
-
Field supervisor
Field measures before fabrication and sequences the set against drywall, tile, and the countertop template date. Carries the punch list through closeout, with the trade coordination that decides how many visits that takes.
